Punjab HC seeks to fast track cases against Badals, Amarinder

Criminal cases are pending against Punjab CM, his son, former CM Amarinder and 30 IAS, IPS officers

The Punjab and Haryana high court last week asked the Punjab and Haryana governments to furnish a list of pending cases involving bigwigs so that these could be sent to fast track courts.

Apart from chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, his son and deputy Sukhbir, and former chief minister Amarinder Singh, 20 IAS and 10 IPS officers in Punjab have corruption cases pending against them. Among the IAS officers is chief secretary of Punjab SC Agrawal.

Parkash and Sukhbir Badal have disproportionate assets cases pending in a special court in Ropar for five years. A similar assets case against them is being investigated by the Vigilance Bureau, but no charge sheet has been filed yet.

The IPS officers facing criminal cases, disciplinary action or investigation are former directors general of police (DGP) SS Virk,  KK Attri and Mohammad Izhar Alam, additional directors general (ADG) SS Saini and GD Pandey, senior officers RP Singh, SS Sodhi, Paramraj Singh, Rajinder Singh and Devinder Singh Garcha. Virk is accused of having assets disproportionate to income, while Attri and Alam face charges of financial irregularity. Saini is accused of abducting and killing three people.

The IAS officers are, largely accused of financial embezzlement. They include Sarvesh  Kaushal, Jagjit Puri, Mandeep Singh, B Sarkar, GS Pirzada, CS Srivastava, HIS Grewal, Khushi Ram, JS Maini, Dr Swarn Singh, RN Gupta, Dharam Vir, Harjit Singh, Kirpa Shanker Saroj, Shruti Singh and DS Grewal.

Another list of IAS officers with criminal cases include SC Agrawal, who is chief secretary of Punjab. KBS Sidhu and GS Grewal face proceedings in a CBI case on developing a hill resort at Karoran village in Mohali. R Venkatraman and SS Dhillon face corruption charges.
