The BJP today opposed the city government's plan to phase out the autos in the national capital, saying the proposal is not "viable".
"The proposal is not viable. How can they replace the autos. They do not have any alternative," senior BJP leader VK Malhotra told reporters.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit had yesterday said government was planning to phase out autos from the city and working on alternatives to provide the commuters a better way of transportation.
Malhotra said the chief minister did not have any proper plan to phase out the autos.
"She spoke about it without realising the gravity of the subject. Autos are the vehicles for the common masses and it will be difficult to phase them out," he said.
Dikshit today said the Government has no immediate plan to take autos off the city roads and its proposal to replace them with eco-friendly battery operated vehicles is part of a long-term process.
