A prisoner being taken to hospital in Bikaner was injured when two of his associates allegedly fired at the policemen escorting him in a bid to secure his freedom but the shot missed the target and hit him.
The incident took place when the prisoner Brejendra who is serving a ten-year jail term in a dacoity case was being taken to the government hospital in Bikaner by two constables for a check-up.
The prisoner has been hospitalized and his condition is said to be out of danger, he said.
Two persons, waiting in a car at the entry of the hospital, assaulted the contables to help the prisoner run away but the personnel did not lose hold of him.
The miscreants then opened fire but the bullet hit the prisoner instead of the policemen, Bikaner SP Raghvendra Suhasa said.
