If political circles are to be believed, the poster war in Ahmedabad and Delhi has proved fatal for ace organisational leader and CM Narendra Modi’s bete noire Sanjay Joshi, who resigned from BJP on Friday afternoon.

There are strong murmurs that after posters criticising Modi surfaced in the city, Modi pressurised the BJP high command to demand Sanjay Joshi’s resignation. The higher-ups were told that the anti-Modi camp was rising in the state, which was not a good sign ahead of the elections later this year.

The BJP also wanted to set an example that no anti-Modi activities would be tolerated as it could prove fatal for the saffron party ahead of the crucial polls. What Joshi’s resignation means is that once again Modi has once again shows ‘who is the boss’ in the BJP. His pressure tactics worked, leading to the resignation of Joshi, who was once organisational general secretary of Gujarat  BJP.

The war between Modi and Joshi was out on the streets of Ahmedabad and New Delhi this week, as posters hailing Joshi were put up at various places in both cities. Not only that, few posters were also put up in the city on Thursday late night advising chief minister Modi to 'follow Rajdharma, Praja Dharma and Party Dharma'.

It is not known who put up the posters in the city but sources close to development opined that it definitely went against Joshi, as Modi found a pretext to put pressure on high command and demand his scalp.

Another reason behind the episode, sources said, is that Joshi was fed up BJP constantly ignoring him. Since his resignation from the BJP national executive in May end, he was without any specific task in the BJP.

Meanwhile, with Joshi’s resignation, Modi’s stature in BJP has become bigger. At the same time, with his resignation, Joshi is now free to take part in any activity without the fear of being labeled as anti-party.

Though Joshi has little support base in Gujarat, he is a shrewd player. He could join anti-Modi camp, which is beginning to make its presence felt, as an advisor, and harm BJP in assembly elections by taking on his old ‘friend’.
