“Bangalore was known for its science, and silk and now thanks to the cultural nationalism of the BJP it would be known for sex as well,” said Congress general secretary BK Hariprasad as he poured scorn on the saffron party for tarnishing the image of Karnataka’s capital.
“Their tallest leader LK Advani may talk of cultural nationalism, but this is the real cultural face of the BJP. The three Karnataka ministers are not alone, they have people like Sanjay Joshi in the party as well. So, the three resignations do not mean anything. The entire BJP government must quit and face the people,” Hariprasad added.
Coming in the middle of a high stakes political campaign in Uttar Pradesh, and coinciding with the Gujarat High Court’s order blaming the Narendra Modi government for “inadequacy, inaction and negligence” that led to the demolition of more than 500 religious structures in the post-Godhra 2002 communal riots, this incident has provided a lot of ammunition to the Congress against the BJP.
“The BJP blames us for corruption. But then there is no area that has been uncovered by its corruption. It has former Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa and ex-Uttarakhand chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal in its ranks, when it comes corruption in mining it has the Reddy brothers of Bellary, when it comes to comparing money with God, then it has Dilip Singh Judeo. This was the only area that had been left untouched by the BJP, and now these ministers have filled up this gap as well,” said Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi.
