Authorities have banned the 'freedom parade' planned for tomorrow at Thiruvananthapuram by Islamic radical outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) whose activists have been arrested for chopping off the hand of a lecturer for alleged blasphemy.

District collector Sanjay Kaul issued the order banning the parade today, an official press release here said.

District administrations in Thrissur and Wayanad have also banned parades planned by Popular Front of India on the Independence day.

With this, the ban on PFI parades becomes effective across the state as other districts had already issued orders to the effect last week.

Meanwhile, PFI state president Nasiruddin Elamaram said in Kozhikode that the organisation had decided to cancel the parades which had been going on for the last five years.

Activists of PFI protested the preparing of a question paper which allegedly had derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed.
