Air travellers from the city are facing a tough time with the onset of winter as the non-availability of Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the local airport here is forcing them to travel all the way to Lucknow to catch a flight.
The air journey from the city to New Delhi takes just about an hour but the new arrangement has increased it to a minimum 5-6 hours as the travellers are sent to the state capital first by taxis.
Umashankar, executive manager of Kanpur airport, said the visibility at the airport has come down to 500-600 metres which is not sufficient to facilitate the landing of flights. He said the problem will persist till the landing system is installed at the airport.
