The Bharat bandh, which disrupted normal life across several parts of the country, has support from most Indians, according to a recent poll.A social network SMS GupShup conducted a poll called Voice of India, in which one million people across the country were asked via sms whether the Bharat bandh called by the opposition was good for the country. Most of the participants replied in the affirmative.
32,127 Indians participated in the survey out of which 37% were from Maharashtra, 32% were from Gujarat, 9% were from Karnataka and 3% were from Delhi.
Of the total participants, 60.53% felt that the bandh was good for the country, while 39.47% felt that the bandh was a bad idea.
A random sample of the respondents were asked for reasons why they thought the bandh was a good idea, and the most common responses were ‘Rise in food prices’ and ‘Rise in price of fuel’.
