Khan understands the importance of being politically correct after reportedly criticising Baba Ramdev’s agitation as politically motivated.
He may be the Badshah of Bollywood but SRK understands the importance of being politically correct. The actor, who had reportedly criticised Baba Ramdev’s agitation as politically motivated and had refused to support it, declined to be drawn into further controversy when he arrived in Ahmedabad on Thursday evening.
“Koi support nahin karunga...unka agenda hai...jaise hi koi neta ho jata hai, woh yeh sab karne lagata hai (I will not support him...he’s got an agenda...as soon as one becomes a politician, he resorts to such agitations),” the actor had reportedly said earlier in the day when he was in Indore.
But by the time he landed in Ahmedabad in the evening his tone had mellowed. The actor said politics was not his cup of tea. “I am an entertainer and not a messiah. I like people to laugh with me and cry with me. Aur jo jiska kaam hai, usko wahi karna chahiye. Just because there is a fan following, I should not jump into politics which requires selflessness. I won’t be able to handle it,” said SRK who is travelling across the country to promote his forthcoming release, RA.One.
SRK’s close friend, Karim Morani, is already behind bars in connection with the 2G scam. However, on Tuesday, King Khan had distanced himself from the issue. “Don’t drag me into this,” he had said in Mumbai. He had further clarified that Morani had no role or stake in his IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders, or his production house, Red Chillies Entertainment.
When asked about RA.One and his superhero avatar in the film, SRK said, “It is not a sci-fi film but an entertainment meant for the entire family. For Indians, I would say don’t turn to the West for everything. We can have our own superhero films. Kkrish was one and Drona, too, was a very good attempt.”
Would he ever do art movies? "I don't like that kind of cinema. It is very boring and is a niche kind of cinema. I want to do big films that are meant to entertain the audience," SRK said.
He expressed no interest in directing films either. "When people ask me this, I feel they don't want me to act anymore. I don't want to direct films because it is a very lonely job. I like spending time with my family and my kids. And being in production, I can be the boss," he said.
