Politics for Kanimozhi will have to wait

As she attends the trial in the 2G spectrum case at the Patiala House courts, DMK MP Kanimozhi is a much more relaxed person now.

Out on bail, she has a semblance of normalcy in her life. She can smile. She can talk freely. She can discuss her travel plans. She also enjoys compliments that she gave a ‘nice slip’ to the media when she was left the Tihar jail.

There a still a few anxieties though.  There is a note of positive optimism in her voice as she talks of going to Chennai during the weekend. For her, everything else has to wait till that ‘reunion’ with her father and DMK supremo M Karunanidhi is over.

Further, she is aware that her party colleagues would like her to play a bigger role in politics. There is even some talk of her joining the Union cabinet as the DMK has two vacant berths. They talk appreciatively of the ‘sacrifice’ she has made, and assert that she must get a ‘reward’. But she simply smiles away at all these suggestions.  For, the ongoing trial remains uppermost in her mind.

Her message is simple: “Let us wait, till all this is over.”

Indeed, right now the much sought after DMK MP is also not even willing to give interviews to the media. There are promises aplenty, and she keeps them all on hold with an assurance that there will be time for everything in just a few weeks, when things settle down.
