Police have summoned Dhruvi (name changed) for recording her statement in connection with the complaint she had filed with the Meghaninagar police on Saturday against CID officers and others accusing them of alleged rape in cop custody. Apart from her, police have also called Amam Shah, son of the owner of Gujarat Samachar.

Joint commissioner of police, detection of crime branch (DCB), AK Sharma said, “We have received her complaint and are treating it as an application for now. After investigation we may file an FIR in the case.”

Police are also examining witnesses in the case and are recording their statements. “We have sent summons to the woman at her residence (in Vadodara) and are also looking into the medical reports while she was in police custody in May as well as other documents related to the case,” Sharma said. Police had, however, failed to register her statement on Monday and are expecting to record it very soon. “We tried to reach her. She was not available at her residence and we have pasted the written summon on the wall of her house,” said investigating officer and deputy commissioner of police, Parikshita Rathod.

“We are also trying to look into other allegations made by her,” Rathod said.

“Whether there were any women present there when the woman was in custody, the medical reports conducted while she was in jail and why she remained silent when she was presented in the court earlier are some of the questions we are investigating,” Rathod added. Meanwhile, police are also investigating the role of Amam Shah, son of the editor of Gujarat Samachar as per allegations. So far, police have not found any direct role. “Investigations, however, also reveal that Amam had threatened the woman through someone and not directly,” Sharma said, adding that police may consider following this angle if anyone records a statement to this effect.

Dhruvi had accused CID police inspector MM Shaikh, two other men — Jayesh Dave and Divyang Jha — along with an unidentified mentally retarded man of raping her. Dave and Jha are complainants of the case, in which she is an accused. Dhruvi got bail in a cheating and forgery case last week. She filed her complaint with the Meghaninagar police on Saturday in this connection.

Meanwhile, the alleged rape victim has also threatened to file a petition in the HC on Tuesday.
