Following constant pressure from the media, the police have finally begun investigation into the Abhay Gandhi fraud incident, even in absence of an FIR being filed.

It has been six days since Abhay Gandhi, promoter of AISE Capital, made a disappearing act with allegedly Rs500 crore of investors money. On Thursday, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), PC Joshi ordered the Satellite police station to gather details about Gandhi, his company and the alleged scam.

"There have been reports in the media about this case so we have decided to check how far these reports are correct. We want to know whether Gandhi really is a scamster or not," said Joshi. The ACP directed police inspector NB Chavda of Satellite police station to look into the matter.

What also piques the police's curiosity is that if the fraud has occurred, then why are investors not filing any complaints? "We also want to know why investors are so afraid. I have asked for information on how many people have invested in AISE Capital. Their statements will also be taken," said Joshi. "If we find that a con job has been perpetrated, then we will take strict action against Gandhi," added Joshi.

Gandhi had three offices in the city, one each at Nehrunagar, Anandnagar and near Mansi Complex. He was operating from Sunrise Mall near Mansi Complex. "Gandhi was paying around Rs12 lakh of rent per month for the three different offices," said one of the investors.
