Cops for effective policing
Gujarat police are all set to increase expertise on intelligence gathering at various sources. Director general of police, SS Khandwawala said, the gathering of the information and building sources from citizens is the biggest challenge for the police department. The department will recruit specialised officers to gather intelligence, Khadwawala further said, adding that 44 specialised police inspectors will be recruited mainly to gather sensitive information.

Two new SRP battalions
Two new battalions of State Reserved Police (SRP) will be formed in the state — at Bhuj and Jamnagar — to focus on the industrial security of the state and will be trained specially for the industrial training. "The group may be trained at the CISF headquarters in Hyderabad," Khandwawala said.

Reduce property crimes
To reduce crime against property is one of the important aims of city police in the upcoming year," asserted joint commissioner of police, Satish Sharma. All measures are aimed at such comprehensive crimes and how to best act in reducing them.

Canine & camel commanders
The state police will implement a specialised cadre for animals used in policing activities. This cadre will train and take care of the dogs as well as the camels put to use at the state borders. This will reduce the stress of police officials and as a result routine policing can be increased.

No relief for anti-social elements
The year ahead can turn into hell for crime perpetrators and anti-social elements active in the city. One of the important aims of the police is to decrease such anti-social elements' activities from the city. Several special drives on the specific types of crimes like bootlegging, gambling, vehicle thefts among others are cops' top list.

Expect fewer deaths on roads
City police will try harder to make city roads much safer for pedestrians as well as vehicle owners this year. All the wings attached to traffic control are working on a joint formula to know the exact patterns of the accidents, timings, vehicles, age group and many other aspects which provides a pattern of the accidents occurring in the city. The police are expecting less number of accidents in the city.

New weapons for police
For effective policing, ammunition used by the police have to be effective. The state police will convert at least 25% of its ammunition to insas-based weapons with this aim. Insas is the latest technology and the police will be provided the insas-based weapons.

Women safer in women police stations
The number of women police stations in the state will be increased to 14. "Currently there is only one women police station in the city at the Karanj, while the other one will be shortly started at Chandkheda," a source in police department said.

Polite police
Cops had already been trained to talk effectively and politely so that the public behave with them like friends and not foes. This will erase fear of police from common citizens and will ultimately result in effective policing.

Measures to reduce response time
Ahmedabad police are in no more in the mood to be dubbed as the 'Bollywood cops', who have become the laughing stock owing to their late arrival at the crime spot and invariably only after the criminals escape. "All efforts will be taken to reduce the response time of police, so that the criminals can be caught immediately after a crime is committed," said an official.
