Bhavna Desai has accused husband Hiren and his family of Rs25 lakh demand.
Hours after he participated in the passing-out parade of Gujarat Police Training Academy, Karai, on Monday, a PSI was in for a shock after an FIR was filed against him and his family for dowry-related harassment. The complaint was filed by his wife at Vastrapur police station. As per case details, Bhavna, 26, is married to Hiren Desai, a probationary PSI. She is currently staying at her father's house at Jay Ambe Nagar in Thaltej. Bhavna's father Kalubhai Desai is a police inspector in Mehsana.
According to Bhavna, her in-laws, including mother-in-law Babuben Desai, brother-in-law Pradyuman and sister-in-law Vibha, had been harassing her. One week back, Bhavna and her father approached Vastrapur police station and gave an application to M R Sharma, senior police inspector. On investigation, Sharma learned that Hiren was to join the police force as PSI after the passing out parade on Monday. ''
"For almost three days, we tried to convince Hiren to take his wife back, but he remained adamant. We then converted the application into an FIR on Monday and made him one of the accused," said Sharma. According to Bhavna, she married Hiren, a resident of Vandemataram tenements in Gota on May 16, 2009.
A year later, Hiren allegedly started beating her after being misled by her in-laws. Bhavna alleged that her in-laws started forcing her to bring Rs 25 lakh to purchase a new house. When she refused, all of them, excluding her father-in-law Girish Desai, began to beat her frequently.
Bhavna, who is now pregnant, has claimed that Girish was the only one who supported her. However, because of this, he was tortured by his wife and son Pradyuman. On Jan 29, Babuben and Vibha called up Bhavna's mother and asked her to take back. Her mother pleaded with them to show mercy, but to no avail.
