Prime minister’s office (PMO) has taken serious note of the alleged security breach during Rahul Gandhi’s recent tour of Uttar Pradesh and virtually served a show-cause to the state government on Friday.

In its reportedly terse communication to the UP government, the PMO has asked the state to figure out the “issues leading to the lack of co-ordination” between state and central agencies, a senior official said.

Also as per the official, the PMO has warned the state against such incidents in future. “The no-nonsense letter shows that the PMO is in no mood to put up with any laxity on this count,” the official said. State inspector general (law and order) AP Maheshwari told DNA the UP Police had already started an inquiry into the incidents of alleged “security breach”.

Samajwadi Party (SP) activists attempted to disrupt Rahul’s interaction with students in Allahabad and Varanasi on Monday.

They waved black flags as Rahul drove past and tried to stop his carcade at several places.

Former SP leader Amar Singh has termed the SP workers’ protest as part of a “murderous assault” on Rahul Gandhi masterminded by SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

“This is very petty politics. Mulayam should remember that he also has a young son who is into politics,” Singh said. The “attack” on Rahul, he said, was “shameful” and that Mulayam and his party men should desist from such tactics in future.
