A police officer today told a Delhi court that one of the co-accused in the murder of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi had concealed the two firearms used in the commission of offence.

"Accused Keshav Chauhan, who had visited the official residence of Phoolan Devi after the incident had replaced and concealed the two country-made pistols which were used by Sher Singh Rana in the offence," Suresh Kaushik, an inspector who is also the Investigating officer (IO) in the case, said.

During the probe, a witness, who had seen accused Keshav removing the firearms from the place of the incident, had recorded his statement.

The police officer, testifying as 170th witness in the nine-year-old trial, also said prime accused Sher Singh Rana had led investigators to the residence of the slain Samajwadi Party MP and and confessed to his complicity in her murder.

"I had prepared the pointing out memo of accused Rana. He voluntarily took the police party to 44, Ashoka Road residence
of Phoolan Devi during the investigation," he testified.

The recording of statements of Kaushik remained inconclusive and would continue tomorrow before additional sessions judge SC Rajan.

Earlier, the IO had said that Rana killed Phoolan to avenge the 1981 Behmai massacre in which she and her gang murdered 17 people belonging to an upper caste.

The Samajwadi party MP was gunned down outside her 44, Ashoka Road, residence here on July 25, 2001.

According to the prosecution, Rana, along with 12 others, had allegedly conspired to kill Phoolan to avenge the Behmai massacre.

Besides Rana, other accused are Keshav Chauhan, Rajbir, Ravinder, Dharam Prakash, Sharwan, Vijay, Shekhar, Praveen
Mittal, Amit Rathi, Vijay Rana, Pradeep and Surender.

They have been booked under IPC dealing with murder, attempt to murder, destruction of evidence, criminal conspiracy and procuring and using illegal firearms for their varying roles in the offence.
