A local court has sentenced the director of a Punjab-based pharmaceutical company to five years of imprisonment after he was convicted of manufacturing spurious medicinal tablets.
Chief judicial magistrate sentenced A Sood, the director of Nasreia-based Axon Laboratories Private Limited, to five years of rigorous imprisonment yesterday for manufacturing spurious Sapagun tablets.
He was sentenced under the Section 27 (A) of Drugs and Cosmetics Act and a fine of Rs 10,000 has been also slapped on him.
The drug inspector had taken samples of Sapagun tablets, which were manufactured at Sood's company. The tablets were tested and found to be spurious.
