Unsatisfied with the government's reply on queries related to "shortage of ration", opposition PDP today staged two walkouts in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly.
Soon after the zero hour, the assembly debated the issue of alleged shortage of ration in the state after PDP member Mansoor Hussain and BJP members Gharu Ram and Bharat Bhushan
moved a half an hour discussion notice.
They alleged that rations were being sold in black market and asked the government to ensure distribution of the ration to all categories of people.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress chief whip Ghulam Ahmed Mir said the flaws in the system should be corrected.
Cells should be set up at inter-state border terminal at Lakhanpur, Lower Munda Tool post and another on Leh route to verify the quantity of ration coming from the Centre, he said.
CPI(M) member M Y Tarigami blamed the officials and thegovernment for bungling in the distribution of ration, and
asked the minister of consumer affairs and public distribution
(CAPD), Qamar Ali Akhoon, to probe into it.
Replying to the questions, Akhoon said measures were being taken to ensure that ration reaches to various categories of people.
The minister also denied any shortage of ration in the state and said that vigilance teams of the department have been set up to keep an eye on the distribution system.
Unsatisfied by the reply, PDP members staged a walkout in the House.
