At least 30 people were today injured when police and security forces baton charged and used tear gas shells to disperse supporters of Maoist-backed PCPA who attacked them at Jhargram town in West Midnapore district.

The supporters of People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) attacked the joint forces with stones, after taking out a procession to Jhargram in violation of prohibitory orders, police said.

At least 30 people were injured in the police action, sources said, adding 40 PCPA supporters were detained. Maoists also fired at security personnel at Kolaboni, near Jhargram and at Lakshmanpur near Salboni and at Dharampur near Lalgarh but there was no casualty, police said.
