In its drive to act against the hookah bars in the city, the Ahmedabad city police on Tuesday raided a restaurant in Navrangpura and busted a hookah bar that the owner ran alongside.
The Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB) raided the hookah bar in Adhar restaurant at Iscon Arcade on CG road on Tuesday evening and arrested 12 people for allegedly allowing hookahs in the restaurant. The PCB seized 12 hookahs and various flavours used in it collectively amounting to Rs24,000. The police also seized Rs1,800.

The arrested include owner Govind Patel and 11 of his staff. "We have arrested them on the charges of breach of commissioner of police's circular, which banned running hookah bars in the city," a police source in PCB told DNA, adding that they have also been arrested under the Tobacco Control Act.

It is also alleged that the hookah bar in the restaurant was being operated with the consent of the Navrangpura police. "The police were aware about the hookah bar, but did not take any action against the owner," said the source.
