Air India passengers were a harassed lot as many of its flights were cancelled on account of the agitation by the airline executive pilots, which entered the second day today.

Passengers were seen making a beeline at the airline's counter at terminals 1A and 1D of the Indira Gandhi International airport here, after it announced cancellation of flights.

Those who booked their tickets through an agent had to face trouble, as the airline officials at the counter refused to accept the claims saying that the amount would be refunded only by the agents.

"I have been in Delhi for the last two days due to the cancellation of flights. I left for Chandigarh from Lucknow yesterday. My flight was in the morning but it was cancelled so the airline accommodated me in an late afternoon flight," said Veena Gautam, an official of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), posted in Lucknow. The airline also provided accommodation to the passengers whose flights were cancelled.

"This morning I was told that my flight was at 11.30 am, so I reached here around 10 am. After arriving at the airport from the hotel, I was informed that my flight was cancelled. I asked for refund but they said that I will get it from the agent as I had booked my tickets from him. The officials finally gave it around 2.30 pm after repeated requests," Gautam said.

Passengers travelling alone or with children faced more trouble. "Before leaving Kolkata for Jodhpur this morning, I confirmed with Air India whether my flight from Delhi to\ Jodhpur would go, after getting affirmative reply, I reached here along with my family and children and now they are saying that my flight has been cancelled," D Chattpadhayay, who had planned to spend his holiday with his family in Jodhpur, said.

They should have made some arrangements for passengers like us, who are in transit. Air India officials, however, refused to accept that passengers faced any inconvenience.

They claimed that arrangements were made to give full refunds to the passengers of cancelled flights. "Keeping in mind that the number of refund claims, due to cancellation of flights, might go up today, we had made adequate arrangement of funds yesterday as we were aware that the banks would remain close for the next two days," an airline official said.
