The city police that are yet to make any headway in the sensational bank robbery case that took place near Parimal Garden on Thursday morning are trying to reach the culprits by analysing the records of mobile phone calls. The strategy adopted by the police aims at finding the mobile numbers that were used by the accused at three different locations.

The police have sought the records from mobile service providers. The aim is to get records of all calls made by all numbers used at Dhari in Vadodara (from where the car used in the crime was stolen on Wednesday),  Mruduchandra Society (robbery site), and Mahasweta Society near Nehrunagar Cross Roads (where the car was abandoned).

From all these numbers, the investigating officials will find out the ones that were common at the three sites. Once that is done, the officials will find out the persons in whose names the numbers were registered. This, the police believe, will help them zero in on the accused.

“We will match the common mobile numbers used at all the three spots,’’ said a police official.

“We are in the process of taking the mobile records from all the service providers about the mobile phones used at all the three places,’’ said a  police source on the condition of anonymity.

In a parallel move, the police are also questioning history-sheeters to get any lead about the robbery. A crime branch official said there are several gangs who operate with the same modus operandi.

“There are several gangs in the city, which have earlier committed such crimes and we are keeping a tab on them,” a police source said, adding that there are all possibilities of a local gang being involved in the crime.

The police suspect three members of Gopal Bhaiji gang, who are out on bail,   in the crime. Others like Amit Gajjar, Ashok Bhil, Mukesh Marwadi and Kirit Sadhu gangs are also under police scanner.

At the same time, the police are not ruling out the possibility of outside gangs. “A police team has been sent to Indore after a tip-off about the robbers,” the source said.

Clues that could help
FSL experts have gathered fingerprints, especially from the Maruti 800 car used in the crime. "We have got good fingerprints from the glasses of the car as well as from the seat covers," said an FSL expert.

What dog sniffed
The sniffer dog from the dog squad first moved around a lane in Mruduchandra Society and then reached the dead-end of a road in the society. Later, it went to towards SM Road and headed towards Nehrunagar cross-roads.
