It was a moment of pride for the 'Parents Association against NEET' on Sunday as the association collected a whopping Rs 1 lakh on the very first day of opening its bank account.
Parents from all over the state are fighting against the recent decision of the Medical Council of India (MCI) which has stated that the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) will be held in English and Hindi only, thus getting rid of regional languages.
Parents from across state attended the meet regarding the same on Sunday in the city.
The parents are collecting funds to file a case against MCI for bringing this rule, which has eliminated use of regional language from the test. For this, the association met on Sunday at the Ahmedabad Medical Association hall where they discussed various issues like fund raising and steps to be taken for the legal battle.
Speaking to DNA, a member of the core committee of the association, Dr Jignesh Shah said, "At the meet, we passed various resolutions. We have decided to take the consent of each and every MLA of our respective areas to support us and write a letter for us which will be sent to the government. We have also decided that if the Gujarat government won't file a case then we parents will do the needful and file a case against MCI."
Another good news for the parents during the meeting was brought by Dr Parag Thakkar, a pediatrician and also a member of the association. He said that health minister Jaynarayan Vyas who had stated his support for their cause, said the state government would also support them but the case would have to be filed by the parents.
"Also, when we met revenue minister Anandiben Patel, she too supported us and suggested that we meet chief minister Narendra Modi regarding the issue. All the ministers we met suggested that we file the case," stated Shah.
The parents will approach the chief minister on Tuesday with their demands.
