Parents arrested for killing premature baby

A baby girl, born prematurely to a couple seven months after their marriage, was killed by them as the husband suspected her wife's character at a village near here.

Bablu and Vandana Khumbhkar were arrested yesterday on the charge of strangulating their baby, the police said today.

Ever since the baby was born seven months after their marriage, the relation between the two had strained with Bablu suspecting Vandana's character.

As Vandana's in-laws expressed unwillingness to accept her, the couple was driven to desperation. Bablu allegedly pressured Vandana to kill their child, the police said.

Unable to withstand the mental torture she suffered at the hands of her husband, she returned to her parents' house at Golkatta village, but was later persuaded by Bablu to take the baby's life on Friday night.

A police team found the body after the incident was brought to its notice yesterday.
