Panel probing Congress charges against Gujarat govt seeks info

The Justice MB Shah Commission, constituted to probe the various allegations levelled against the Modi government by the Opposition Congress, has sought information and evidence in relation to the charges.

The Commission, headed by Retired Supreme Court judge, MB Shah, was announced in August 2011, a few days after the Congress party submitted a charter of serious charges against the government to the President. The Congress had levelled 17 charges, of which two are sub judice. The Commission is probing the remaining 15 charges.

The MB Shah Commission, on Monday, sought information and documentary evidence in relation to the charges. The Commission said in a statement that any person having information or evidence in relation to the charges could submit the same at its office at Dafnala, Shahibaug, from 12 noon to 4 pm on working days till April 30.

Some of the charges levelled by the Congress against the government include allotment of land to industries in Gandhinagar at throwaway prices, concessions of Rs33,000 crore to Tata's Nano car project, land allotment to Adani Group for Mundra Port & SEZ, and allotment of Navsari Agricultural University's land sans auction to Chhatrala Group.

The Opposition had also raised issue of illegal allotment of forest land to Essar Group and violation of CRZ rules by the corporate house, allotment of land to companies associated with BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu in Kutch for salt industries, allotment of prime land on SG highway without auction to Bharat Hotels, and allotment of land in Hazira to L&T at throwaway prices.

The other charges made against the government included use of aircraft and helicopters of beneficiary industrial houses by the chief minister, high-level corruption in GSPC, and irregularities in Sujalam Sufalam Yojana.

The Congress had also claimed that 36.25 acre agricultural land in Kutch was sold to Indigolg Refinery in violation of rules & regulations due to interference of revenue minister and the CMO.
