The Indian Army has pressed the alarm button after receiving intelligence reports suggesting that Pakistan has amassed a large number of terrorists on the launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC) indicating a possible increase in infiltration attempts.

“There are inputs of large concentration of terrorists on launch pads across the LoC which indicates the likelihood of increased infiltration attempts in the future. The army is fully geared up and maintaining a high level of vigil to thwart nefarious designs of the adversary,” said Lieutenant General Om Prakash, general officer commanding (GoC) of Srinagar-based 15 corps of the army.

Following these developments, Lieutenant General KT Parnaik, general officer commanding-in-chief, northern command, flew to Srinagar to take stock of the security situation in Kashmir. He was given an update on the operational preparedness and prevailing security environment in the valley. “The visit assumes importance against the backdrop of renewed attempts of infiltration and recently conducted successful operation in Handwara,” said a defence spokesman at Srinagar.

Nearly six militants were killed in the dense forests of Handwara during a week-long operation. Four soldiers, including a cop, were also injured.

The statement comes at a time when New Delhi has once again asked Pakistan to take action against Mumbai attack mastermind and Lashkar-e-Tioba founder Hafiz Mohammad Sayeed.

According to the police, Lashkar is desperately trying to recruit the local youth by indoctrinating them with radical ideology since they are facing shortage of foreign manpower in Kashmir.
