Pakistan today arrested 16 Indian fishermen and seized four boats in case of alleged territorial water violation by them, the third such incident in last two months.

A spokesman for the Maritime Security Agency said the fishermen were arrested this morning, 16 nautical miles inside the Pakistani territorial waters.

"They were inside Pakistani waters, and fishing illegally. They have been taken into custody and their boats have been seized," the spokesman said.

In the last two months, this is the third incident of Indian fishermen being arrested inside Pakistani waters. Some weeks ago, 16 Indian fishermen were arrested and their boats, seized.

The spokesman said the fishermen would be interrogated by docks police and sent to jail later on.

There is no clear demarcation in the Arabian sea, separating the Indian and Pakistani territorial water borders, and this leads to poor fishermen from both countries being frequently arrested and lodged into jails.
