Pakistan’s National Investigative Agency blew the lid off Pakistan-born American Lashkar operative David Headley’s activities, according to sources in the home ministry.
It was Pakistan which tipped off the US investigating agency, FBI, about the Headley’s antecedents and terror connections. The information was passed on when he was still camping in Pakistan and ``roaming free’’, they said.

At that point he was confabulating with the Lashkar-e-Taiba and other organisations to give final touches to the terror attack plans in India, the highly placed ministry sources said.

Meanwhile, even as more information keeps pouring out about Headley’s terror links, the ministry is gearing up to initiate legal action against him. Apart from filing a chargesheet against him, the government is also preparing itself to seek Headley’s extradition.

It is learnt that the National Investigating Agency (India) will file a separate chargesheet against Headley once it gathers evidence of his involvement in Mumbai terror attacks. This will be in addition to a supplementary chargesheet to be filed by the Mumbai police in the special court conducting the trial of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist in the attacks.

The extradition process will begin once the investigation to establish Headley’s links with Mumbai attacks is completed. The probe is likely to be completed within the next six weeks, the sources added.
