Attari (Amritsar): A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by BSF and another arrested while drugs with street value of Rs 40 crore seized following heavy exchange of fire on the Indo-Pak border near the Attari Joint Check Post.

"A body of Pakistani intruder was found and eight kgs of heroin worth Rs 40 crore, one automatic loaded Chinese pistol and one loaded Pump action gun were seized from the encounter site last night," Border Security Force inspector general Himmat Singh said here on Wednesday.

The IG said that before the fierce encounter took place at Mahawa village near the barbed fencing, the BSF troops had noticed three people carrying guns and marching towards the Indian territory.

When asked to surrender, they started indiscriminate firing on BSF personnel. During the half an hour long encounter nearly 200 rounds were fired from Pakistan's side.

The IG said a Pakistani intruder who was hiding in the bushes was nabbed during a search operation launched on Wednesday morning. During interrogation he revealed his name as Kajumudin, a resident of Karachi.

on Tuesday, a high alert was sounded along the Indo-Pak Attari border immediate after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team in Lahore, just 20 km from here.

The IG said that two smugglers from India had also reached the Indo-Pak border to receive the consignments inspite of night curfew, but they managed to flee.

He said that search operation have also been launched on surrounding border villages to trace them.

An alert was sounded since there were apprehensions that Lahore attackers may attempt to cross over to India as the Pakistani city is in close proximity to Indian border, deputy inspector general (DIG) Indian Border security Force (BSF) Mohhammad Aqeel said.
