Own a posh car? Gang of super-brats are coming to wreck it

They are rich, pampered, and like all spoilt kids, like to break things for fun — especially the windshields of expensive cars such as BMW and Mercedes Benz; and the windowpanes of posh homes.

A gang of 10 to 15 destructive young men, thought to be the sons of some affluent Ahmedabad businesspersons, dare each other with bets of Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 to wreck other people’s expensive cars and properties.

Despite the mounting debris of glass, scattered across the city’s posh areas such as the CG Road, Navrangpura, Satellite, and Prahladnagar, the police have not been able to bust the glass-shattering gang. The gang’s mobile squad even mounts raids on some areas
in Bopal.

If fact, the boys have become so brazen that if they cannot spot a Benz for their devastating distraction, they home in on the nearest Hyundai model and break its windshield to smithereens.

The gang members’ addiction to destruction is so intense that they will even turn on those who have protected them against cops. Here is a case in point.

Sometime back, a builder’s son was caught for his windshield-wrecking ways, but he was soon let off after another well-known Ahmedabad builder exerted his influence on the police. However, a few days after the offender was freed, the builder who had facilitated his release found the windowpane of his car’s door smashed.

“I had put in so much effort to have this boy freed,” the builder said. “At that time, I did no realise how wicked these guys were. Now I know that action should be taken
against them.”

An inspector at the Satellite police station, MH Vasani, said, “We will certainly nab the
gang soon. It is only a matter of time.”
