Over 30 candidates who have criminal records are in the fray for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections scheduled to be held on Monday, a top police official said here today.
Police have kept a strict vigil and has taken measures to prevent any untoward during the civic polls from where over 30 candidates with criminal background are in the fray, city police commissioner B Prasada Rao, said at a Meet the Press programme organised by the Hyderabad Union of Journalists.
Of the 3,562 polling station, 400 polling station have been identified as hyper-sensitive, 500 are sensitive and 300 are problematic centres, the commissioner said.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the civic poll and over 18,000 police personnel drawn from various districts bedies city police personnel will be deployed, he said.
Three companies of Rapid Action Force would be deployed each in south, east and west zones in the city besides deployment of mobile and striking parties, Rao said.
Replying to a question, Rao said there were 6,130 licenced weapons in the city in the jurisdiction of Hyderabad commissionerate and 95 persons who were holding weapon license have deposited their arms.
The election campaign was peaceful so far with no major incidents reported and expressed hope that poll would be conducted in a peaceful manner, he said.
