In a first in the history of the Haryana Assembly, the entire opposition was suspended for the remainder of the budget session after it created ruckus in the House over disallowing an adjournment motion on price rise.

Speaker HS Chatha suspended 35 MLAs present in the House, including former chief minister Om Parkash Chautala, for nine days till March 16 after they forced adjournment on three occasions for 77 minutes.

Those faced action included 31 MLAs of INLD, lone member of its ally from Shiromani Akali Dal and three of BJP.

Later, Chautala told reporters that the action was "unprecedented" in the history of the state since its formation in 1966. The House took the action without giving an opportunity to the opposition to raise their issue, he alleged.

However, chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda termed the behaviour of the opposition as "shameful" and said it continued to create ruckus though the speaker gave opportunity to speak.

Earlier in the day when the house assembled for session, BJP member Anil Vij pressed for admittance of his adjournment motion during the question hour itself. The speaker said he could raise the issue during the zero hour.

Later, Chatha disallowed the motion saying he had last week converted a similar one of the INLD into a Call Attention Notice and the same was to come up in the house tomorrow during which Vij would also be allowed to speak.HR-LD SUSPENSION 2

The speaker said, they could also raise all issues during the discussion on Governor's Address, which was to commence today. However, furore continued as Kuldeep Sharma (Congress) was called to move motion of thanks on the Address.

After the House witnessed three adjournments for 77 minutes, the speaker said, "I repeatedly appealed to the opposition to let the house run. But they remained adamant on not allowing the house to function. It seems they had pre-determined to disrupt the proceedings. This behaviour is condemnable as it lowers the dignity of the House."

Then, parliamentary affairs minister Randeep Surjewala moved a resolution proposing suspension of all the (36) members of the INLD (31), BJP (4) and SAD (one) for the remaining period of the session. Later the name of BJP member Kavita Jain was dropped as she was not present.

Those suspended include Chautala, his two sons Ajay and Abhay, Haryana INLD President Ashok Arora, BJP Legislature Party Leader Anil Vij and SAD's Charanjit Singh.

Later Hooda said, "If a request comes from the opposition for reconsideration of the decision, we will consider it."

Chautala said during their meeting with the speaker, they had proposed that the government could bring in a resolution requesting the Centre to roll back the petro price hike, but it did not agree.
