A Naxal was killed and another was injured in a police encounter that took place in Bijaur district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.
Spokesman of the state police department Rajesh Mishra told PTI that a uniformed Naxal was killed while another was injured in a police encounter in the jungles of Mankeli village in Bijapur district.
A police team was sent to Mankeli following a tip off that Naxals, who have a camp there, were planning to carry out an attack, Mishra said, adding that when police team reached its jungles some Naxals opened fire at them.
The team fired in retaliation and when Naxals fled, a body and an injured Maoist was found at the spot besides explosives, he said.
The injured Naxal was admitted to a hospital where he is undergoing treatment, he said.
