One person was shot at and injured by suspected Maoists at Belpahari in West Midnapore district today, police sources said.
Asutosh Mahato, 50 years, a resident of Simulpal under Belpahari police station was attacked near Machkadna area while he was going on a motorcycle, the sources said.
Mahato, a former Zilla Parishad member and a local Jharkhand Party (Aditya) leader, who was injured in the left thigh by a bullet sped away on his motorcycle to the Belpahari police station, police said.
He was taken to the Belpahari primary health centre and then to the Jhargram sub-divisional hospital.
