Deputy mayor Darshana Vaghela and leader of the BJP in AMC Gautam Shah were also surrounded by supporters and well wishers. Vora, who graciously accepted the wishes from all and sundry, ensured that his work did not suffer amid the celebrations.
He managed to ensure that some of his pending works were cleared.
Vora prepared a list of pending issues and submitted the same to leader of the party Gautam Shah. He will also have a meeting with standing committee chairman Bhupendra Patel and Shah to take stock of the solid waste management system - the door to dump plan- introduced by him as standing committee chairman.
Many supporters and workers along with union members came to the office to greet him. Dhols and slogans accompanied their wishes. But the BJP office wore a deserted look.
It was expected that newly elected corporators may throng the party's office.
But, except for some of the usual corporators, such as Bhushan Bhatt, no one made an appearance at the BJP office. The Congress office- unlike the BJP bosses' office, did not see many supporters or acquaintances queuing up to greet or meet the leader of opposition in the AMC. Newly appointed leader of opposition in AMC, Badruddin Sheikh, began his day by taking details of pending work from various departments in the civic body. Sheikh, who has decided to dedicate four hours at the AMC to attend to people's grievances, also discussed the important things that needed to be taken up as leader of opposition in the AMC.
"I have started getting details of pending projects and those that have been deserted after being initiated. I will take up the issue with the executive as well as elected wing," he said.
