Omar Abdullah meets Pranab Mukherjee over paying arrears to govt employees

Official sources said the Mukherjee assured Omar that he will look into the matter.

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today took up the matter of paying of arrears to state government employees as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission with Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Official sources said the Mukherjee assured Omar that he will look into the matter.
     
Jammu and Kashmir government employees had on April 3 gone on strike demanding among other things immediate release of arrears as recommended by the 6th Pay Commission and enhancement in retirement age from 58 to 60 years.
     
Despite evoking the Essential Service Maintenance Act, the employees had continued their strike till the Jammu and Kashmir High Court ruled the strike illegal.

Employees in several state-run educational institutions and hospitals had also gone on strike.
