Omar Abdullah attends first public function in Srinagar since crisis began

The chief minister inaugurated the power development department's receiving station in Jawahar Nagar locality.

For the first time since the crisis began in the valley over four months back, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today attended a public function amid tight security in the city which has been a hub of protests.

Welcomed by scores of ruling National Conference (NC) supporters, the chief minister inaugurated the power development department's receiving station in Jawahar Nagar locality of the city amid tight security and there was no untoward incident.

During his visit to the SKIMS hospital at the peak of the unrest last month, the chief minister had to face some embarassing moments as relatives of injured persons had raised slogans against him.

Minister of state for tourism and revenue Nasir Aslam Wani, who represents the Amira Kadal constituency in the assembly, was also present during the inauguration of the station.

The station has a capacity of 20mva and has two transformers of 10mva capacity each. The station will benifit 3,500 consumers in the Jawahar Nagar area and the adjoining localities.
