October has been unusually warm this year but the meteorological office says relief is on the way. The average maximum temperature in Ahmedabad is expected to come down over the next few days.
The day temperature in the city in the last week or so went up to 38 degree centigrade. In contrast, the temperature at night fell to as low as 19 degree centigrade.
Met officials, however, find this nothing unusual for October at this time of the year. They said that the maximum temperature in this month is usually high while the minimum temperature is very low. The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad on Tuesday was recorded at 37 degree C.
But the hot days of October are to end soon. The Met department believes that the temperature will come down by next week and Diwali on October 26 will be much cooler than one would expect it to be this year. A cold Diwali would augur the arrival of winter, an official of the meteorological department said.
As if in anticipation of the coming winter, day temperatures fell in parts of Saurashtra-Kutch on Monday and changed slightly in other parts of the state. However, the day temperatures stayed appreciably above normal in parts of north Gujarat region, Kutch, and even in some parts of Saurashtra. It was normal in other regions of the state.
Meanwhile, Rajkot, Saurashtra and Deesa recorded 39 degree C as the maximum temperature, the highest in the state on Monday. Amreli recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 19 degree C.
Amreli also witnessed heavy rainfall and thunderstorm on Monday. Met officials, however, consider this normal during the post-monsoon period. They said that such rain and thunderstorm occur due to local phenomena and are quite normal for this time of the year.
