The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Indian national, with an Interpol red corner notice for sexually assaulting four women and murdering one two years ago in Britain.
'Aman Vyas was arrested from the Indira Gandhi Airport while he was trying to flee to Bangkok,' a CBI spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Vyas, who went to the United Kingdom in 2007 on a student visa, had allegedly raped three women aged 49, 46 and 35 and murdered the youngest one in 2009.
The information about the alleged sexual attacks emerged after a woman was raped and strangled to death, on her way to her boyfriend's house in East London.
Her body was found in a small park in Queens Road, Walthamstow, on May 30, 2009. Using DNA samples, UK Metropolitan Police linked the crime with other assault cases.
UK authorities issued a red corner notice against Vyas and sought CBI's help.
'Aman Vyas is wanted by the British authorities for murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual touching, grievous bodily harm with intent, grievous bodily harm, actual bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of blades,' CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said.
'After recieving a request from Interpol, the CBI conducted discreet inquiries about Vyas from Lucknow and found out that Vyas would try to flee from the country,' he said.
Mishra confirmed that he was arrested by the Delhi police after the information was passed to the immigration authorities in Delhi.
Mishra added that Vyas had to be extradited to UK.
