The YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) household continues to court trouble. After son YS Jaganmohan Reddy kicked off a minor political storm by defying the Congress leadership, YSR’s son-in-law Anil Kumar has landed in a mining controversy.
Anil Kumar is an evangelist married to YSR’s daughter Sharmila.
The state had entered into a joint venture agreement with Hyderabad-based Rakshana Steels for mining iron ore in Khammam and Warangal districts in 2009, when YSR was the chief minister.

While the government has received an exploration approval from the Centre for the earmarked 1.45 lakh acres in these districts, opposition parties have raised the question of propriety, stating the deal was signed before the Centre’s nod. They demanded a probe into the entire episode on Tuesday.

“The company is owned by YSR’s son-in-law Anil Kumar. The state government took extra care in getting the joint venture signed even before the Centre gave any approval. The agreement in itself is void since it was signed much before the state was allowed to explore the said area for iron ore,” TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu said.

Meanwhile, Rakshana Steels has clarified that it has no connection with Anil.
