To hunt down the driver who fled with Rs25 lakh, Vastrapur police sent a team to Rajkot. Police learnt that the former wife of driver Sanjay Kshatriya lives in Rajkot, so it was possible that he might have gone there.
According to PSI BK Saiyad, who is investigating the case, Kshatriya divorced hisRajkot wife a few years back. "However, he is having a wife in Nepal. We have called some of his relatives to know the whereabouts of Kshatriya,'' said Saiyad.
Police also learned that Kshatriya got the driver's job through the recommendations of his father Lal Bahadur, who also used to work as a driver. "The previousemployer of Lal Bahadur was a good friend of complainant Arjan Bhatia, thus Sanjay got the job.
Now, Lal Bahadur is in Nepal after retirement," said Saiyad.
On Friday night, Kshatriya, who hails from Nepal, vanished with Rs25 lakh kept inside his employer's car between 9 pm and 10 pm. After learning about the theft by his own driver, a complaint of theft was lodged by Bhatia, a land broker.
Bhatia, 50, a resident of Sarthi Bungalows near Surdhara Circle, told the police that he had employed Kshatriya as his driver eight months back. Kshatriya used to livein the basement of Megha House on CG Road.
Bhatia had just brought Rs10 lakh from one Narendra Somani and Rs15 lakh from one Ketan Patel and kept the cash bag in the car. As soon as Bhatia reached home, he ran inside to attend the nature's call and asked Kshatriya to bring the bag inside.
When Kshatriya did not come inside after some time, Bhatia went outside to look for him but found both the car and the driver missing. Around 12:30 am, his car was traced near HL College campus with the bag missing.
