India has not invited its neighbours Pakistan and China for the sixth edition of the biennial defence exhibition being organised here from February 15 to 18.

"We have not sent invitations to Pakistan and China for the DefExpo-2010. In fact, they also do not invite us for such events they organise. Last year, we had invited China to the AeroIndia-2009 show in Bangalore, but it did not participate,"
defence production secretary RK Singh said today.

DefExpo-2010, which will witness participation from 35 countries and will have official delegations from 41 countries, would be the largest ever held in the last decade and defence minister AK Antony will inaugurate it.

Among the foreign countries to attend the exhibition, US would have the largest representation, followed by Israel.

Among the countries to attend the exhibition, Bulgaria, Hungary, Nigeria, Senegal, Surinam, Turkey, Uganda and United Kingdom would send their Defence Ministers, while several others, including Israel and Italy, would be represented by their deputy ministers.

There would be delegations headed by some countries' defence secretaries, chiefs of army and navy too.

The DefExpo, which would focus on land and naval systems, would witness 650 exhibitors showcasing their products, half
of them from India.

The exhibition, to be held at Pragati Maidan, would help in business-to-business contacts and for fruitful trade partnerships, apart from establishing links between foreign and Indian companies for fulfilling offset obligations for contracts over Rs 300 crore.

"We look forward to facilitating these. This year, participation from both exhibitors and foreign delegations has gone up. Indian participation has nearly doubled," Singh said.

From the domestic participants, DRDO would have the largest presence in the DefExpo, with BEML occupying the largest open space for exhibiting its products.

Israel's would be the largest indoor presence with US taking the honour in outdoor show. Israel again would have the largest number of exhibitors with 21 companies from that country attending the exhibition this year.

The DefExpo would also provide opportunity for the CII to organise business seminars on defence offsets, joint ventures and tie-ups between Indian and foreign firms, futuristic army and naval systems and leaveraging technology for self-reliance.
