Less than 24 hours remain for the filing of civic poll nominations, but dissatisfaction within the state BJP seems unlikely to subside anytime soon. Resignations and opposition to candidates chosen by the party continued on Friday, with workers chanting slogans against the city and state leadership.

In Bamroli ward, 70 party workers resigned owing to dissatisfaction over the candidates chosen by the party. There was uproar at Karanj as well.

Angered with the ticket allotment for the upcoming civic polls, workers expressed their resentment in various ways. After Amroli and Magob, workers in Karanj chanted slogans against the saffron party and decided to abstain from election work. Workers were opposing the party's decision to field two baxi panch candidates - Devika Jhadvani & Rajesh Jolwa, while the entire ward falls under the general category. The workers gathered at the city party office at Rustompura, and submitted a memorandum to their leaders.

The situation was almost out of control at Godadara, where BJP workers staged a protest in front of the party ward office and later locked it from outside. They even burnt party posters and banners in protest.

Top party leaders rushed to Godadara and tried to pacify the workers. In a state of fury, 70 workers, under the leadership of Jairam Desai, handed over their resignations.Dissatisfaction was the word at Magob as well, where workers gathered and chanted slogans against the party in the evening. Later, workers went to the city party office, where they demanded a roll-back of the candidate decided by the party. The BJP has nominated a candidate belonging to another ward, for Magob.

In a surprising move, two ex-councillors from BJP filed nominations as independent candidates. JP Shah filed his nomination from ward number15, while Chatur Patel filed his nomination from Bhatar & Majura ward. City party leaders
refused to comment on the issue.
