Come October 11, senior BJP leader LK Advani will embark upon a journey in search of better political acceptability of his party, and sound the bugle for the need for change of guards in the Centre.

Though the BJP on Wednesday said that the focus of Advani’s 38-day long Jan Chetna Yatra is more for ‘creating awareness for good governance and clean politics’ and not for any political agenda, it is any body’s guess what the real motive is. After Advani’s war-cry during the national executive meeting last week, the party workers have already started working to ensure the BJP gets maximum political mileage from his yatra.

“This is not for expansion of the party or for political alliances. It is neither going to be a negative yatra taken up to expose the UPA government  or to run them down. This yatra is meant to awaken people about their legitimate right and that they need to fight for good governance and clean politics,” said BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar, in-charge of Advani’s rath yatra. In fact, it won’t be wrong to call Ananth Kumar as Advani’s new saarthi (charioteer) who has taken over the reigns after Pramod Mahajan’s death.

The BJP obviously wants to ride on the anti-Congress mood created by Anna Hazare in the last few months and hammer in points that may go in helping it in the elections. Already there are some important elections lined up next year, the important ones being in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat.

During his tour, Advani will skip Ayodhya and Somnath, his destinations in the past.

The exhaustive schedule of Advani's rath yatra reveals that the senior leader will cover almost 7,600 km, some by road, rest by air, in an attempt to reach out the maximum number of areas.
