BJP President Nitin Gadkari today said said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement that people from Uttar Pradesh go begging in other states was an insult.

"Rahul Gandhi's statement during Phulpur rally that people from UP go to other states to beg is an insult," Gadkari said while addressing Vijay Sankalp Samagm on the occasion of convergence of two Jan Swabhiman Yatras led by Rajnath Singh and Kalraj Mishra respectively.

Rahul Gandhi had on Monday asked in a rally, "How long will you beg in Maharashtra? And how long will you work as labourer in Punjab?"

In a counter attack, Gadkari alleged that Congress, which has ruled for the maximum period, was responsible for the current condition of the state.

"From Pandit Nehru to Sonia Gandhi, one family and one party ruled the country for the maximum time. Rahul should reply that why such conditions exist for people of UP," he said.

Gadkari alleged that inflation and starvation were due to wrong economic policies of the government and SP, BSP were equally responsible for this.

"They have friendship at the Centre while they are fighting in the state," he said, adding, "They all are fatal for the state and should be defeated."

The BJP president alleged that not a single section of the society whether youth, farmers, Hindu or Muslim was happy in UP and said that they all are facing tough time.

"When Mayawati came to know that she will not return to power again,  she played a stunt of division of the state," he alleged.

Gadkari said that BJP was in favour of creation of smaller states and Uttrakhand and Chattisgarh were carved out during its tenure.

He said that BJP intended to make UP a progressive and prosperous state and is ready with the development plan while announcing that 50 lakh people would be given employment in five years if party comes to power.

The BJP president said that the High Court has paved the way for the construction of a grand temple of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

"Now we want to establish Ram Rajya where every person gets work and every section gets an opportunity for development," he said.

Gadkari said the BJP would sit in opposition in Uttar Pradesh if it does not get majority but there would be no alliance with any party.

He alleged that when scam after scam surfaced during Congress regime and the country was being "looted" but "Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav saved the government.

"They saved the government by supporting it on vote of account. Their MPs saved the government on the issue of corruption," he alleged.

The BJP president alleged that all the three parties have a tacit understanding.

"It is my prayer that to change the future, support BJP," he said.

Gadkari said that Rajnath Singh and Kalraj Mishra have successfully completed their Jan Swabhiman Yatras and now the party would launch a new campaign from December 1.

Between December 1 to December 15 he will launch 'UP Bachchao, BJP Lao' campaign and will reach all 403 assembly segments," he said, adding that Uma Bharati would lead the campaign.

Former BJP President Rajnath Singh demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should take back his statement terming Pakistan PM Yusuf Raja Gilani as a man of peace.

"It is not justified as a man of peace is the prime minister of a country which is being termed as hub of terrorism by the entire world," he said.

Rajnath also asked Rahul Gandhi to take back his statement as it was an insult.

BJP vice-president Kalraj Mishra alleged that the situation in UP has worsened during BSP government as compared to previous SP regime.

"Leaders of both the parties are facing enquiry in disproportionate case.... How can such people curb corruption," he said.
