G Shantikumar Sharma, a senior BJP leader, has been elected new president of the Manipur BJP unit, party sources said today.
   
Sharma, a former vice president of the state unit who was the lone candidate, was elected unanimously during the party's election here yesterday.
   
The BJP north-east in charge P Chandrasekhar Rao and returning officer of the party, Ranjan Das, were present during the party's election process, sources said adding that Sharma would be in office till 2012.
   
Senior party members -- N Kaisi and SH Chokeshwor Sharma -- were also elected members of the national council of the party during the election, party sources said.
   
Shantikumar Sharma replaced H Borobabu, a former Manipur legislative assembly speaker, who said the party would work hard for all round development of people in the insurgency-hit border state, sources said.
