Rock lovers in the national capital may miss a date with Canadian singer Bryan Adams tomorrow as the city police has denied permission for his concert citing security concerns.
The 52-year-old star, who has sold sold nearly 70 million albums and 30 million singles worldwide, was to perform at the NSIC exhibition ground in south-east Delhi's Okhla tomorrow.
"We have denied permission for the concert because of security concerns. The place chosen to organise the concert is not suitable for this kind of a programme," a senior police official said.
According to the official, the objection was mainly becuase the organisers selling more tickets than the capacity of the ground which can cater to only 6,000 people at a time.
"They have issued VIP and complimentary passes also. There were no traffic plan despite the fact that the show was to be held on a working day," the official said.
The official said police had informed the organisers about the denial of permission on February 10.
According to the official website of Adams, the rockstar is to perform in Hyderabad on February 16. On Thursday and Friday, he will perform in Dhaka and Saturday, he will fly to Kathmandu for another concert.
"The organisers are cooperating with all authorities concerned and are in the process of closing all formalities pertaining to the concert. Mumbai and Bangalore saw successful shows with all formalities fully undertaken and New Delhi and Hyderabad will also be on the same lines," the organisers said.
KyaZoonga, the official ticketing partner for the event, said it was not yet aware of any sort of cancellation.
"I am not yet aware about any sort of cancellation, however, as a company we are ready for any kind of contingency," KyaZoonga chairman and chief executive Neetu Bhatia said.
"We have in the last three years handled a lot of big events and have also refunded money to people in case of any change in programmes or cancellation," Bhatia said.
