The Delhi high court has upheld a trial court order awarding ten-year rigorous imprisonment to a man for raping a three-year-old girl.

Justice VK Jain dismissed the plea of accused Jaidev for leniency and upheld the trial court verdict.

The court said that the accused deserves the maximum punishment for the heinous offence. "No words are enough to condemn such an act of perversity," Justice Jain said.

The accused raped the child in September 2004 when her parents had gone to a local market in West Delhi. When they returned home, she was not there. Later they found her weeping in a nearby forest.

The accused, who was present on the spot, was caught and handed over to police.

The lower court, after going through all the evidences, found him guilty of offence and sentenced him to ten years of rigorous imprisonment in September 2007. Jaidev then approached the High Court which rejected his plea.
