An NDFB insurgent was killed in an encounter with the police in lower Assam's Goalpara district along the Assam-Meghalaya border in the early hours today and a pistol was recovered from his person.
The encounter took place when the police launched a search there following a tip off that militants of the outfit were present at Rongjuli area.
A group of six ultras fired at the security forces, who retaliated killing one of them on the spot.
The rest five extremists fled with dawn yet to break and a search was launched to track them.
