Naxal attack: Maximum brunt borne by CRPF men from Uttar Pradesh

Four personnel were from Rajasthan, three from Tamil Nadu, two each from Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Orissa and one each from Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi.

Jawans from Uttar Pradesh bore the maximum brunt of casualties in the audacious attack by Maoists, with 44 of the slain CRPF personnel belonging to various district of the state, followed by six each from Bihar and Uttarakhand.

Four personnel were from Rajasthan, three from Tamil Nadu, two each from Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Orissa and one each from Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi.

A total of 76 personnel, including one head constable of State police force, were killed in the deadliest attack by Maoists in the dense Mukrana forest of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh yesterday morning.

The team led by Deputy Commandant Satyawan Singh, 48, and Assistant Commandant BL Meena, 30, were among other 82 personnel who were caught in an ambush by left-wing extremists.

According to a list released by CRPF, those killed included Zamurulhasan, Sharvdev Singh, BK Sharma, Brijesh Kumar  Tiwari, Rakesh Kumar, Ved Pal, Bhupender Kumar, Awdhesh, Satrajeet Ram, Manak Chandra Sharma, Devender Yadav, Narender Kumar, Khalil Khan, Jamuna Prasad Giri, Sanjay Kumar Jalaon, Manoj Kumar Pandey, Navneet Kumar, Arender Kumar and  Virender Singh, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh.

Udaj Veer Singh, Suraj Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Mahender Kumar, Tara Singh, Ajit Singh, Ramanand Yadav, Jitender Kumar, Praveen Kumar Raj, Satender Singh Yadav, Ranjeet Kumar Yadav, Dharam Pal Singh, Udai veer Singh, Nahar Singh, Sachin Kumar, Satish Chandra, Rajender Singh Rana, Sushil Kumar, Vinod Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Nirvesh Kumar,Amit Kumar Singh, Inderjeet Kumar Ram and Shyam Lal from Uttar Pradesh were also killed during the attack, it said.

Six personnel from Uttarakhand — Manoj Nogai, Brij Anand, Lalit Kumar, Mahesh Singh, Vinod Pal Singh, Tikam Singh -- and six others from Bihar -- Surinder Rai, Prakash Kumar, Jeetu Anand, Bishwanath Raj, Bhutan Yadav and Moti Lal Ram were killed in the ambush.

K Vijay Kumar, D Shekar, Mohan Rangan from Tamil Nadu, Pradeep Kumar and Sandeep Kumar from Haryana, Loes Xess and Raja Ram Ekka from Chhattisgarh, Sampat Lal and Ram Karan Meena from Rajasthan and Yogeshwar Naik and HK Malik, who were from Orissa, sacrificed their lives during the attack.

Other deceased CRPF personnel are Ali Hasan (Delhi), Amle Sopan (Maharashtra), Shivappa (Karnataka), LK Kalita (Assam),
Rajesh K (Kerala), Ashish Kumar Bhagel (WB) and MCM Reddy (Andhra Pradesh), the list said.

Following the ghastly attack, prime minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with Union home minister P Chidambaram yesterday to assess the situation. Both of them have expressed shock over the attack and grief over the loss of lives.
